History of Sugaring
The earliest reference to hair removal came from the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt and Greece. Early writings out of Mesopotamia tell of kings asking that maidens be brought to them “clean and smooth”, that is, hairless. Inspired by Alexander the Great, the women of Alexandria considered a hairless body to be the standard of beauty, youth and innocence. Egyptian writings describe how slave girls, serving the Pharaoh, were expected to remove body hair. Hairy arms and bodies were considered socially to be unclean. Persian women used a traditional sugaring paste called moum. During the time of the Turkish (Ottoman) Empire, the harem was an important part of court life, and the removal of body hair was considered an art. The tradition has been handed down through the generations, and certain Arabic people still practice total body hair removal, especially prior to their wedding night.

What is Body Sugaring
Sugar paste is made of sugar, water and lemon juice. It is 100% natural. You can EAT it. It is not tested on animals and is environmentally friendly. It does not contain any chemicals. The product is a blend of natural ingredients therefore eliminating the possibility of any harmful side effects.
It is gentle on the skin. This is because it is water soluble, applied warm (not hot) and it doesn’t stick to anything moist. Therefore it doesn’t stick to the skin or live skin cells, only the hair, with the hairs pulled cleanly from the roots unbroken and without bruising the surrounding area. The hair is removed in direction of natural hair growth. This is less traumatic for the skin and therefore less painful than waxing. This method is good for people with sensitive skin, dry or older skin and for those with eczema.
It is suitable for all skin types and may improve eczema and psoriasis by removing the top layer of dead skin and encouraging the healing of the skin underneath.
Sugar removes hair in the direction of the growth, so you don’t break hairs at the surface of the skin. This helps to prevent in-grown hairs. Sugar actually helps to heal in-grown hairs because bacteria cannot live in high concentrates of sugar. Body sugaring does not leave permanent scars that can occur with electrolysis and laser techniques. It is so gentle it can be applied to any body part or skin type.
Sugar paste is applied to the skin and then flicked off. It removes the hair from the root. Because of this, re-growth is slower, finer, softer and lighter in color and can lead to gradual diminished hair growth. This is because each hair follicle is programmed to produce a certain number of hairs in its lifetime. By removing the hair from the root the follicle is stimulated to produce its next hair more quickly than it would have done if the hair had been shed naturally. The follicle then gets through its programmed number of hairs more quickly, after which, it will stop producing a hair. It can grab the hair at 1/16 of an inch, which leads to permanency quicker than other methods of hair removal because you are getting the hair in the Anagen phase, thus depleting the follicle.
As dead skin is removed, the skin is left soft, smooth, healthy looking, clearer, revitalized and stubble free for a few weeks.
